Salva Vida: Save Some Tacos for Me
Clinton Hill has a new addition to the neighborhood: new taco joint, Salva Vida. With a humble 8 stool eating space, the totally unpretentious Salva Vida brings only simple and fresh ingredients to the table. Their name meaning “lifesaver,” this new little eatery can be a real lifesaver when in need of a good taco. Their set-up and atmosphere are meant for a quick in-and-out taco relief when you’re either in a rush or just want to grab a quick bite. One great feature that Salva Vida also helps you save is money, with all their dishes ranging from $7 and under. Salva Vida also offers the ultimate lifesaver that can come in handy during a hot summer day, Mexican Coke! So stop by Salva Vida at 291 Greene Ave, between Grand Ave and Classon Ave, to save some time and money on some good Mexican cuisine.
Cochinita: Fulton Street is Full of Tacos
Cochinita Pibil is one of Mexico’s most treasured dishes that consists of slowly roasted pork in acidic juices (such as bitter oranges, lemons, limes, or vinegar) wrapped in a banana leaf. Take my word for it; it is definitely a bucket-list dish. And when this beautifully marinated pork is added to a taco, only one word comes to mind: perfection! Fortunately for the residents of Brooklyn, Fulton Street is about to be filled with this Cochinita treat. A couple of weeks ago, Cochinita Tacos opened at 922 Fulton Street after owner Adam Frank lived in New York ten years (after growing up in Los Angeles) without finding a decent taco joint.
Instead of continuing his search, he decided to open his own. Cochinita Tacos offers other taco choices apart from ‘Cochinita Pibil’, like ‘Pollo Verde’, ‘Cecina’, and ‘Rajas’- all traditional Mexican flavors on their in-house freshly-made tortillas. They also use only humanely raised meats and all of their offerings are gluten-free. Cochinita Tacos is open daily from 12pm-10pm and is located between Clinton/Waverly Avenue in Clinton Hill. So head over there and try the Cochinita Pibil so you can check it off your bucket-list!
