Ready to spice things up a little?  Launched in spring 2008, the Bushwick-based Brooklyn Salsa Company brings a medley of flavorful sauces to the table inspired by the spirit of the city.  Made with “pure, explosive ingredients” that are delightfully organic, the salsas range from gentle and mild to alarmingly hot. With a range of natural constituents, such as eggplant, coconut, mango, pineapple and obviously chili peppers, the flavors are apt to take your tongue on a diversified joyride, courtesy of a new generation of salsa makers.

Inspired by the five boroughs, the salsa company’s founders, Rob Behnke and Matt Burns, set out to bottle the vibrancy and eclecticism of New York using the freshest ingredients and most sustainable business practices as possible. Though these sauces are Brooklyn-made, the unique flavors of each borough are evident in every ounce.

The Bronx is to blame for The Burnt, the red-hot concoction of tomatoes, eggplant, coconut milk, limejuice, onion and curry powder for a fierce tongue-blazing treat. 

Staten Island powers the mouth with The Green, a hybrid verde mix of tomatoes, mango, limejuice, garlic, spices and sesame seeds for an earthy, semi-sweet mild child.

Send your palate on a vacation with Queens-inspired The Tropical, made with tomatoes, pineapple, onions, oranges, coconut milk and more for a medium hot, but fruity vibe.

Manhattan grants us with The Pure salsa, mild and red, derived from tomatoes, onion, chili peppers, mango, limejuice and cilantro for a smooth and zesty finish.

Set yourself ablaze with Brooklyn-inspired The Hot, a blend of tomatoes, mango, chili peppers, onions, cilantro and garlic. My personal favorite, the heat of this salsa gradually intensifies until you are left with an everlasting and dramatic sensation pulsating on your tongue. 

All salsas are locally sourced, organically mixed and available for $5.99 a jar. Recipes for your unconventional salsa-eating pleasure are available on the company’s website – Brooklyn Buffalo Burger, Staten Island Organic Eggs, ‘Da Bronx Parmesan and more. 

Drizzle them on tacos, burritos, or tostadas, pair them with tortilla chips, pita chips or crackers, or just grab a spoon—we won’t tell anyone.
