Burlap Brooklyn is a special boutique that reflects the philosophy of its owner, Temah, whose personal and professional tag line is “Go confidently in the direction of decadence”. She believes that the quality, timelessness, uniqueness and energy of the possessions that we purchase contribute to the overall richness of our lives. All of the pieces in her shop are ones that she saw, craved and tried herself before selling them in her store. The resultant collection covers a wide swath of categories that are more expected in a larger store or chain.

Burlap carries an exceptionally well-edited collection of clothing for men and women, designed by such upscale houses as Calvin Klein Collection, CP Shades, Haute Hippie, J Brand and others. Natural fabrics and organic products are prominently featured. These pieces range from fabulous, timeless pieces with clean lines to scented candles, baby gifts, tableware and jewelry.

In addition, Burlap carries organic lotions, soaps and fragrances for adults and children. Some of the lines that Burlap carries are Bamford of London, Claus Porto, and Histoires de Parfum among others. It is also the purveyor of unique items for the home, jewelry, books for children and soon for adults. Many of the brands are European and are not readily available elsewhere.

Temah has selected beautifully designed, quality tabletop items including cutlery, dishes, serving pieces and vases by manufacturers who are not commonly known such as Match and Nambe. An unexpected and unusual service that Burlap offers is a bridal registry. Couples can come in, choose items they would like from the selection available or from a catalogue and follow the purchases on line on their private web page.
Another feature is unique, high-end baby gifts that are not only beautiful but functional. For example, there is a two-section baby dish that will keep food hot or cold. There is a beautiful set of cutlery for a baby or child, nestled in its own fabric holder, for a very reasonable $30.

Temah’s philosophy is that a shopper can come to her store and find merchandise in a variety of price points. You may select a less expensive item today, but mentally bookmark another, more “decadent”, piece for a future purchase. One such item is a beautiful bracelet that comes in rose gold or white gold with several floating diamonds. It is simple enough to wear on a daily basis and its construction is substantial enough to support daily wear. It is priced in the $800-$900 range.
When you go, prepare to spend some time so that you can explore its many nooks and crannies.
