Where do you live in Brooklyn and how long? Prospect Heights, I've been there
for a year, before that was in South Slope for almost 3.
Why did you decide to live in Brooklyn? I don't really remember anymore. Graduated from college in New Orleans, wanted to go someplace new and had some friends here. I was wrapping things up in New Orleans when Hurricane Gustav evacuated the city, I decided to expedite everything and instead of evacuating I just grabbed my valuables and moved.
Favorite spot to eat? I love The Vanderbilt, the roasted Shishito peppers haunt my dreams. Sidecar Café is my hangover sanctuary. I love the Fried Chicken Salad Sandwich and their Bloody Mary is the best I've had.
Favorite spot to get a drink? Avoiding all the bias from my job, my fave spot for a low-key, beer doused adventure is Washington Commons - they have an incredible courtyard. Also Union Hall...
Favorite spot to shop? I don't do a great deal of shopping, but when I do I usually end up buying
gifts for people from all the great boutique places on 5th ave. I think Scaredy Kat was designed for the last minute b-day gift shopper like me. I admit I like to stop off and buy some special beers at Bierkraft for myself. I envy anyone who gets to have 5th Ave Market as their Bodega.
What's your hidden Brooklyn gem? Weather Up in Prospect Heights. - this spot is literally hidden from the untrained eye by a totally anonymous façade - when you get inside it really feels cozy and special - great cocktails too.
Favorite Brooklyn memory? My best memories are always in the Summer - getting out and seeing music at Celebrate Brooklyn - I had a blast at the Dead Weather show a couple Summers ago. I'm always excited for the Kentucky Derby Party at The Bell House, something about getting over dressed before it gets too hot and drinking Mint Juleps in the sun out front - it really does feel like being down south, only surrounded by warehouses in Gowanus.
What do you love about Brooklyn? It may sound cliché but I really do believe that Brooklyn hits that
perfect mix of stimulating and chilled out. There is always something to do, places to discover, neighborhoods to explore, but at the same time it never becomes overwhelming or inescapable. I feel like I would be content to call Brooklyn my home for life.
