Name: Zoe Wilder
Age: Year of the Dragon
Job: I'm in the business of making people boogie
Lives in: I’ve been in Bushwick for a hot minute. Before that, I lived in Park Slope for a few years. Before that, I lived in Flatbush for a bit. Before that, Ilived in Boerum Hill for a while. I’m making the rounds.
Why did you decide to live in Brooklyn? I needed more space...affordable rent, and felt compelled to live in a more creative environment. I stumbled upon a group of artists occupying a 5,000 square foot loft in Brooklyn and fell in love with the space. For the first time since I moved to NYC from the South, I had a window that allowed the sun to come pouring through. I had room to dance and work on various projects. I could throw art salon parties in my living room; and so I did. I booked bands and djs to play on our half-pipe while poets recited verse in the next room, projections flickered on screens, art hung on the walls and dangled from the ceiling. All of this was only a day dream when I lived in Manhattan.
Favorite spot to get a drink? I can't help it...the Coconut Capetas, Coco Locos, and the chilled shots of Hornitos with the sugar and coffee coated lime from Bembe are really exciting. I'm there every Wednesday night, hosting my Brooklyn Shakedown party so I've had a minute to discover the best drinks.
Favorite spot to eat? Bar Tabac and I go way back. I really dig the atmosphere, plus nothing beats a trio playing ragtime, sipping on wine with a burger and fries on a Sunday afternoon. The bistro bites are yummy, too. I just discovered Roberta’s Pizza and I’m hooked. Another recent discovery...Fatty ‘Cue. The Brisket & Bao with a Panchito Special hits the spot every time. I’m very much looking forward to trying out Betto. I hear wonderful things.
Fave spot to shop? I’m not much for shopping, but I’ve been meaning to check out the Brooklyn
Flea.
What's your hidden Brooklyn gem? If I told you that, it wouldn't be a hidden gem...now would it? Favorite Brooklyn memory? I can’t count how many times I’ve watched a sunrise or set from a rooftop in Brooklyn. After a night of party-hopping and dancing all over the city, I’ll find a rooftop and welcome the new day before hitting the pillow...It’s hard to pin down just one memory....but if I had to, I’d say sitting on my roof in Park Slope in the summer, watching the sunset, drinking red wine, and falling deeper in love with my soulmate.
What do you love about Brooklyn? I love the energy, the down to earth vibe. The people. The art. The music. Everything. I've entertained the notion of moving a few times, but all thoughts have led me back here. I may have been born and raised in Atlanta, but my heart belongs to Brooklyn.
